Session Info
I am always honored to be chosen by clients to capture their portraits, a newborn’s first few days, a family’s special moment, engagement, weddings and more. Clients always ask how they can prepare for their session and below are some guidelines and tidbits that can be helpful depending on your session.
ENGAGEMENT & OTHER SESSIONS: Sessions are customized to meet your needs. Lifestyle photography is what I love to do so the session is scheduled preferably in the early morning or the golden hour when the sun sits low in the horizon. If that cannot be scheduled and we can only fit the session in the late morning or middle of the day, the key is the location where we can have shade. Parks are always great to for sessions or next to buildings that provide shades, but of course that special place that has meaning for the client will always be the best location for a session since I find such places bring out the best in a person and they tend to be more relax in their preferred location. If scheduling during the ideal time is not possible we will do our best to capture that special moment and portrait regardless of the weather! Yes, in many cases (like an engagement shoot) I do sessions even when it’s raining…umbrellas, rain boots etc are all great props to work with! Cloudy days are even welcome. If you’re asking one of the much asked question:”What do I wear for an engagement shoot?” then know that Clients should wear what they are comfortable in, but the less distracting the clothing the better. I would like to focus on the client and clothing without busy lines and designs help. Matching outfits is up to the couple, but keep in mind complementing your partner’s wardrobe and where we will be shooting. Ladies, bring walking shoes in addition to your shoes you would like to use. If you have additional props you would love to bring to the session, we can definitely discuss it prior to the day of the shoot. I can also help look for makeup artist for your shoot (additional fee for the MUA) to ensure the best photographs. Many individuals who book a portrait session would also book an MUA for their shoot. Speaking of makeup, ladies remember to bring face blotters, mirror, and your lipstick/lip gloss!
NEWBORNS & BABIES: The best time to photograph newborns is usually when they are within their first two weeks (earlier the better!) where they are mostly sleeping and can be posed in the cutest positions without waking them. Also, the first few weeks is also best since after a few weeks a baby will develop baby acne, dry skin, etc. Contact me about 8 weeks before your due date so we can schedule your newborn session. However, if your bundle of joy has already arrived, call me as soon as you can and I will do my best to set up an agreeable session date. For “older” babies the session will depend on the child, which is why newborn, babies, and children sessions may take more than 2 hours! I do not rush the session and do need the assistance of the parents to make sure the child is comfortable. If they need to be fed or held and soothed, by all means I will stop the shoot to give the child time to relax. For any session with newborns and children, any distracting noise should be avoided. Babies are very curious so I prefer for them to focus on one parent’s voice. If there are other children and family members in the house hold, it’s preferable they are not in the same room. If siblings and other family members are part of the session, they can be brought in at a later time. In regard to clothing, newborns are typically not clothed and for older babies and children, the less distracting the better. If the parent has ideas of what they want their children to wear we can definitely discuss it. If you have props you want to use, definitely let me know. Etsy and other online stores have amazing prop selections for newborns.
